User Datagram Protocol (UDP)

Description: OpenSS7 Product Status Transport UDP

Note that it is now possible to select from most of these categories off of the "Related" sidebar menu.

Overview:-

The User Datagram Protocol (UDP) Transport Provider Interface (TPI) access component is an implementaiton of a STREAMS driver which provides TPI access to the native Linux NET4 TCP implementation.

UDP is a fundamental component of some Signalling Transport (SIGTRAN) protocols such as the Besseler IPSS7 component.

History:-

Work on the UDP transport component began in January 2001.

Status:-

The STREAMS UDP interface to the native Linux NET4 UDP is in the Maintenance stage.

Dependencies:-

The current STREAMS INET interface release depends on a Linux kernel and STREAMS. This INET interface package is an integral component of the current Linux Fast-STREAMS releases and need not be downloaded separately.

Design:-

Designs for the UDP components can be viewed here.

Documentation:-

Documentation for the UDP TPI component is available here. The UDP TPI man page is available here: tpi_udp(7).

Test Results:-

Test programs and test results have been publicly released and are part of the public release package.

References:-

A reference list for the UDP components can be viewed here.

Code:-

Code for the Transport Provider Interface (TPI) to Linux NET4 UDP has been publicly released. The code for this component can be viewed here.

Maintenance and feature enhancement updates are normally publicly released as soon as they become available. Current updates will also be incorporated into future Linux Fast-STREAMS releases.
